This time, the Taisetsu Museum of Art will be holding a special exhibition, Vol. 2, entitled "53 Years of Pottery Making: Hiroaki Tsutsui, a Representative Ceramicist of Shinshu."
Hiroaki Tsutsui is a ceramic artist with a kiln in Azumino, Shinshu. Before going independent, he spent four years from 1972 training in Kutani ware in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, and from 1976 he studied under masters of ceramics, Uichi Shimizu and Mitsuyuki Kawase, in Kyoto. He returned to Nagano in 1980, opened a kiln, and has continued to create his own works.
In 1978, he was first selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, Japan's largest craft exhibition, and has since been selected 24 times, receiving the Asahi Shimbun Award in 1985. In 2000, he donated a piece to Ise Grand Shrine. He is active not only in Japan but also around the world, having exhibited his work at the Onishi Gallery in New York in 2013 and 2014, and his work is included in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and has held numerous solo exhibitions at Takashimaya, Mitsukoshi, and other department stores.
We hope that this exhibition will allow you to feel soothed by the beauty of the clear blue-white sky and water.

This solo exhibition was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Taisetsu Museum of Art. I would like to express my deepest gratitude.
It has been 53 years since I started making pottery, but it is not easy to create a piece that I am satisfied with. I hope that by looking at my works, you will gain a little understanding of the work of pottery. Thank you for your consideration.
(Hiroaki Tsutsui)
